"About 2 years ago, I decided to get off birth control to allow my body to heal in plenty of time before my husband and I wanted to get pregnant. Post-pill, my periods were irregular, I had an ovarian cyst rupture, and my doctor diagnosed me with PCOS; however, I wasn't satisfied with that diagnosis. “I am a strong believer in “everything happens for a reason” and I feel the stars aligned when I stumbled upon the Nourishing Women Podcast, as the discussions hit true to my soul. I am nearly 30, was on an OCP (oral contraceptive pill) for 11 years, had an eating disorder, and over-exercised (although I didn’t realize it at the time), and never got a period for 6 months after stopping my OCP. “When my period ceased in high-school, I was put on the BCP to mask the symptoms for almost 10 years. During that time, I struggled with increasingly restrictive eating and overexercise. I was incredibly out of tune with my hormones, my body, and myself. When I went off the BCP in my mid-twenties and didn't get my period for almost a year and a half, I felt pretty hopeless. Would it ever come back? “Working with Megan was such an important part of my journey towards intuitive eating. I came to Nourishing Minds Nutrition with some stomach and skin issues I'd been "solving" with a super restrictive diet that was starting to send me down a spiral of stress around food and negative body thoughts. I have a history of extreme dieting but I thought I was in recovery prior to this most recent diet. As Megan and I worked together she helped me unveil the mountains of diet culture I had buried under my "healthy eating." “Before I started working with Megan, I had sixteen years under my belt post my inpatient stay for my eating disorder.  Sure, I had made huge strides and I was recovered from many of my original symptoms and behaviors, but looking back, I would label where I was as "pseudo recovery". “It has been four months since my last coaching session with Megan Perez. I just wanted to take some time to say thank you and share how she changed my life.  I am grateful to have worked with Megan and Nourishing Minds Nutrition as a part of my personal health journey. When I decided to get help from Nourishing Minds, my primary goal was to improve my IBS symptoms. I got that and a whole lot more. 

I am a certified personal trainer, health coach, and nutritional therapist. Health and wellness is not only my profession, it is my passion. Consistent with many other people in the wellness field, I have spent a tremendous amount of energy, money, and years attempting to improve my own health. Ultimately, becoming obsessed with the idea of health and trapped in an orthorexia mindset. All the while, my IBS symptoms weren’t getting any better. Then I discovered Intuitive Eating. I wanted to try Intuitive Eating yet I was scared and uncertain that my symptoms would get worse. I searched the internet for someone that specializes in Intuitive Eating and IBS and found Nourishing Minds. Megan and I worked together for several months. She helped me in so many little ways that resulted in shifting my mindset about health, and ultimately my physical body, in life changing ways. She did simple things like helping me rediscover my love of bread. We also created an action plan to combat my freak outs when going to the grocery store. And she gave me permission to eat snacks and taught me that snacks are okay and sometimes necessary. In big ways, Megan helped me improve my sleep. We also got rid of my chronic constipation. And, most surprising of all, my menstrual cycle came back after not having it for 13 years. While my IBS symptoms aren’t totally gone, they are dramatically improved. Megan helped me realize that I was hiding behind the IBS. I was using it as an excuse to create an identity as the “super healthy one”. In reality, it was just a way for me to continue to control my food in an attempt to find control in my life. Letting go of that need for control has freed me up to spend my time and energy on other passions of mine while enjoying food and eating again. 

Megan was always patient and understanding. She listened to me. There were many moments when I felt helpless and embarrassed because of my food fears. She acknowledged my fears and never made me feel silly. I also felt as if we were working as a team.”

“When I considered the investment of working with one of the ladies at Nourishing Minds, I was hesitant.  I've been interested in holistic healing for the past 8 years, and as healthcare provider myself, I've spent a lot of time researching and working on my health issues.  I've also worked with numerous practitioners who never took my complaints seriously.  After twelve years with autoimmune disease and almost four years without a period, I mostly felt that I was beyond help.  However, I knew unless I tried working with a provider who specializes in holistic hormone balancing, I couldn't truly say I had tried everything.
